The problem is, if you copy some text from a file and you close that file (i.e. close the source), the copied text also disappears! Initially I ignored the problem, but after a while, I had it! It was really very annoying if you copied some important link and you close Firefox, the link was lost!

When I went out and searched for the problem then I found this, the actual bug report on the Ubuntu Bug Tracker. According to the Canonical guys, it is a system feature of the X-Windows System, as per its design, it does not have any persistent store mechanism and that sucks! (Here are the X-windows Clipboard manager specifications which is presently deployed on Ubuntu 9.10)

That means, the primary problem is with the X-Windows System and I hope this flaw is sorted out in Ubuntu’s next LTS release, The Lucid Lynx.

So the question is, how do you solve this problem for now?! I have the solution

The solution to this problem is to install Glipper, a clipboard manager for GNOME. You can simple install it from the terminal:

sudo apt-get install glipper

This will replace your current clipboard manager and it works perfectly!

So, that will solve your problem of the missing copy in Ubuntu GNOME! Similar Posts:

I was trying to install JBOSS 4.3.2 (which was very smooth) and trying to run a JMS application. This is a very easy task in Windows, but since, I am new to linux, some easy tasks became so annoying!!! But later I realized it was much simpler once you get the hang of it. So, here are the steps to run a JMS application on Linux (Ubuntu 9.10)

1. Install JBOSS 4.3.2

Download JBOSS 4.3.2 to your desktop and extract the tar.gz or zip file ot /opt folder in the main file system.

“sudo unzip boss-4.2.3.GA-jdk6.zip /opt“

And you are done with your JBOSS installation!!

Go to your terminal and type “sudo /opt/jboss-4.2.3.GA/bin/run.sh“. This will start you JBOSS server in 20-25 seconds.

2. Configure the environment variable in linux

This was the most annoying part for me since I didn’t know how to set the environment variable in Linux. Though its a very very easy process!

Execute this following code in the terminal:

export CLASSPATH=$CLASSPATH:/CLASSPATH=/opt/jboss-4.2.3.GA/client/jbossall-client.jar
To check if you have set the CLASSPATH correctly, type echo $CLASSPATH and if you see the following, you see this, you have set your classpath correctly!

:/CLASSPATH=/opt/jboss-4.2.3.GA/client/jbossall-client.jar

3. Configure your JMS code (more example) (depends on your code)

Go to Eclipse IDE and import your JMS Code. The most simple code should contain 2 files, a client and a server. Then right click on the project > Build Path > Add External Archives; then browse to the folder where you installed JBOSS, (/opt/jboss-4.2.3.GA/) in our case and then go to client folder and add jbossall-client.jar

/opt/jboss-4.2.3.GA/client/jbossall-client.jar

You are all set to run your first JMS application!

You need to create a topic or queue to run the server, for this start the JBOSS server using:

sudo /opt/jboss-4.2.3.GA/bin/run.sh

Go to http://localhost:8080 in your browser.

Go to JMX console

Scroll down to jboss.mq and click on service=DestinationManager

Scroll down to createTopic() method; type in the topic name you want to create and click “invoke”

4. Integrate JBOSS with Eclipse Ganymede using JBOSS Tools (optional)

If you want to start and stop the JBOSS server from your Eclipse installation then add the JBOSS Tools to eclipse in Help > Software Updates. You can follow the steps given in this tutorial.

UPDATE: Rhythmbox works out of of the box with iPod, check here

I tried many softwares; the so called iTunes alternatives, but none of them actually work!

The one guaranteed way to sync iPod with iTunes on Linux (Ubuntu 9.10, 32bit) is by using VirtualBox and tweaking your Linux box.

What I am using?

Ubuntu 9.10, 32bit

Virtual Box 3.0.10

Windows Server 2003 (You can also use Windows XP SP2, I haven’t testing it, but it should work.)

iTouch 2nd Gen with iTouch OS 3.1

This tutorial guides through the complete process, its simple and easy, but this tutorial is for old versions of VB and Ubuntu. You don’t need to follow the last few stages of the guide. SO, the revised stages are:

Install Virtualbox

Configure the USB support

You don’t need to recompile the kernel USB support as mentioned in the tutorial.

Connect iPod Touch to Windows XP VM

And you are done, if everything goes well, you will be able to see you iPod in your iTunes.

UPDATE – WITHOUT USING VIRTUAL BOX
